Vintage Engraved Silver Plate Sugar Bowl w/ Lid

We love this handsome vintage silver plate sugar bowl with lid. This piece is engraved with 'U.S.N' on the front, has two robust hollow handles and features a decorative finial on the lid. It is stamped at the bottom SMITH SILVER CO., Bridgewater, Conn. It was most likely made for the US Navy's wardroom officers mess cabin or similar officer mess facilities at naval, marine, and coast guard installations ashore. It would make a great statement on any table.
